three types of large wall clocks
By jtstunner
Most of the wall clocks that are produced today are made of substandard materials and are mediocre at best. There are a couple of exceptions to this however. The cuckoo clock, the mantle clock, the grandfather clock and the pendulum wall clock all are high quality hand crafted time pieces that easily stand out in a crowd of mediocre clocks. Mantle clocks are our next topic in today's discussion of quality timepieces. These pieces are usually very elegant and of fine craftsmanship as they usually employ intricate inlays of scenes of flowers and landscapes. These clocks are more times than not a sort of rectangular shape with the face being in the middle. Grandfather clocks are our next topic of discussion in our quest of learning about handcrafted wall clocks. The idea for the grandfather clock came from Galileo Galilei who invented the pendulum in 1582, although it was not until 1656 when Christiaan Huygens actually put all of the parts together and made the first grandfather clock. The pendulum wall clock is our last clock that we will be going over today. This clock movement is responsible for both the cuckoo clock and the grandfather clock's mechanical workings. This timepiece movement was made famous by the book by Edgar Allan Poe. So to summarize the three chronometers that we conversed about today are all high quality handcrafted wall chronometers. There are of course countless other timepieces out there that are equally nice but these are just some of the most commonly seen around the world. The first clock that we shall be discussing is the black forest clock or otherwise called the cuckoo clock. The cuckoo clock gets its name from the world famous cuckoo sound that the clock makes when it strikes either the hour or half hour. These clocks are also called black forest clocks because they originated in the black forests of Germany.
