The history of the watch is that which begins in the days as early as Leonardo Da Vinci he drew a picture of a fusee which is This works of a basic principal of torque, by pulling focusing the energy into a small area. As the mainspring winds down it wraps more of the chain from the fusee around it. As a result the torque on the fusee becomes less. The mainspring is coiled around a stationary axle, inside the barrel. The force of the spring turns the barrel. The barrel turns the fusee by pulling on the chain, and the fusee turns the clock's gears. When the mainspring is wound up, all the chain is wrapped around the fusee from bottom of the cone to the top, and the end going to the barrel comes off the narrow top end of the fusee. Also important to the history of pocket watches is Louis Audemars he was one of the most influential watchmakers of the 19th century, he came up with many different complicated designs and systems for internal watch design.

Another important person to the history of watches is Peter Heinlein is considered to be the maker of the very first pocket watch or portable watch. It is said that he came up with the idea for the watch while hiding out from the authorities in a convent. It is here that he came up with the idea to carry about the pocket watch on a chain like that of a pomander (ball of fruit/aromatic spices, which was usually held by a chain) Just think without him we would not have the pocket watch, which would not have led to the wrist watch. These are just a few people in history that have had a significant impact in the makings of watches, how they work, and the size and complexity of them as well.
