Liposuction Vs. Tummy Tuck

Ah the great debate, whether to get liposuction or a abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). This question has probably been around since the beginning of the whole plastic surgery craze. In order to answer this question we first need to know the difference between the two procedures. Liposuction is basically sucking out the deep fat deposits in certain parts of your body. A tummy tuck on the other hand is a procedure where you have the loose flabby skin on your belly taken of and the remaining skin stretched back over your stomach, some fat deposits are taken out with this procedure sometimes.

Now that we have the two defined lets talk about the different instances when you would need the procedures done.

Times that liposuction might be a good idea:

  • If you have been working out and eating healthy but there is still some stubborn fat deposits that are left on the stomach and or buttocks.
  • If you are concerned with the way that certain areas of your body look such as the thighs or ankles.
  • If you are looking to mold your body to more of a shapely figure.
Times that A tummy tuck might be a good idea:
  • After you have had a pregnancy
  • After you have lost a lot of weight
  • If you are getting older
Ideally you would like to get a tummy tuck if your skin has lost its elasticity not if you have some belly fat that could be burned off by diet and exercise or from liposuction.
Neither of these procedures are advised for people who are trying to loose weight because they are obese, if this is the case then a gastric surgery and diet and exercise are recommended over these procedures. However once the weight is of then these procedures are more suitable as they are more for cosmetics than medical.
